Florida WR Chris Thompson Arrested

Florida wide receiver Chris Thompson was arrested and charged with simple battery on April 1, according to Richard Johnson of the Independent Florida Alligator.

Thompson was arrested in connection to an alleged battery against his former girlfriend while he was trying to retrieve his cell phone. The Gainesville Sun‘s Robbie Andreu provided a series of tweets that detailed the incident.

According to the complaint, Thompson got into an argument with his former girlfriend and scratched her arms and neck retrieving his phone.

The argument between Thompson and his former girlfriend was over a text Thompson received from another female, according to the complaint.

The incident happened on April 1. This explains why Thompson has not been at practice the past few days.

According to the GPD complaint, Thompson and the alleged victim had been in an “intimate dating relationship” that ended about 4 months ago.

Thompson is the first arrested player since new head coach Jim McElwain has taken over the Gators.

Thompson was a member of the 2013 recruiting class and had 2 catches for 13 yards in 7 games played while also starting one of those contests.

In 2014, Thompson played in 10 games, but only recorded 2 catches for 17 yards. He also played frequently on special teams in his first two seasons in Gainesville.
