Charge Against Chris Thompson Dropped

Florida Gators wide receiver Chris Thompson has seen his case dropped stemming from an arrest on April 1 for simple battery/dating violence, according to the Gainesville SunIt was one week ago on April 9 that Thompson’s arrest and charges were originally reported.

Florida State’s Attorney Bill Cervone said Wednesday that Thompson had the legal right to attempt to get his phone back from the alleged victim, who found a text message from another female on Thompson’s phone.

“He was legally entitled to make what is called defense of his property, which in this case was his phone,” Cervone said, according to the Gainesville Sun. “That’s what he was doing, and the injuries that resulted were in inconsequential.”

In addition, the alleged victim did not want to pursue the case any further.

Thompson was a member of the 2013 recruiting class and had 2 catches for 13 yards in 7 games played while also starting one of those contests. In 2014, Thompson played in 10 games, but only recorded 2 catches for 17 yards. He also played frequently on special teams in his first two seasons in Gainesville.

Thompson is expected to re-join the team soon and will be a contender to start at receiver in 2015.
