2015-16 Road to the Kentucky Oaks

The Road to the 2016 Kentucky Oaks will have a total of 31 races taking place between September 12, 2015 with the Pocahontas at Churchill Downs and April 17, 2016 with the Beaumont at Keeneland.

The first 16 races are called the Kentucky Oaks Prep Season and award 10 points to the winner, 4 points to second place, 2 points to third, and 1 point to the fourth place finisher in each race except for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, which will award 20 points to the winner, 8 points to the second place finisher, 4 points to third place, and 2 points to fourth place.

The final 15 races are called the Kentucky Oaks Championship Series. The first 8 races of the Championship Series awards 50 points to the winner, 20 points to the runner up, 10 points to third, and 5 points to the fourth place finisher in each race.

The next 6 races will award 100 points to the winner, 40 points to the second place finisher, 20 points to third, and 10 points to fourth place in each race. The Beaumont will be the “wild card” race and award only 10 points to the winner, 4 points to second, 2 points to third, and 1 point to fourth place. Below is the 2015-16 Road to the Oaks schedule. As with the Derby, the dates are tentative and subject to change. The graded status can also change prior to the end of the year.
