2015-16 Road to the Kentucky Derby

The Road to the 2016 Kentucky Derby will start on September 12, 2015 with the Iroquois Stakes from Churchill Downs and conclude on April 16, 2016 with the Arkansas Derby from Oaklawn Park.

The first 19 races are called the Kentucky Derby Prep Season with 18 of the races counting for 10 points to the winner, 4 points to the second place finisher, 2 points to third place, and 1 point to the fourth place finisher in each race. The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile will be worth 20 points to the winner, 8 points to the runner up, 4 points to the third place finisher, and 2 points to the fourth place finisher. The Derby Prep Season races will take place between September 12, 2015 and February 20, 2016.

The final 16 races are called the Kentucky Derby Championship Series. The first 8 of those races are worth 50 points to the winner, 20 points to the second place, 10 points to third, and 5 points to the fourth place finisher of each event.

The next 7 races will be worth 100 points to the winner, 40 points to the runner up, 20 points to the third place finisher, and 10 points to fourth place in each race. The Lexington Stakes at Keeneland will be worth only 10-4-2-1 as a wild card race.

The Kentucky Derby Championship Series will take place between February 27, 2016 and April 16, 2016.
