Alabama WR Cam Sims Tears ACL
The bad news for Alabama will not stop this weekend. The latest news is that wide receiver Cam Sims tore his ACL in practice, according to Matt Zenits of al.com.
Early Saturday morning, defensive back Geno Smith was arrested on a DUI charge. Then on Sunday, it was reported that defensive tackle Jonathan Taylor was arrested for domestic assault. Nick Saban subsequently kicked Taylor off the team.
Sims posted an ominous Tweet about an injury, but offered no specifics.
As a true freshman in 2014, Sims played in 12 games finishing with 7 catches for 62 yards and a touchdown (pictured above). He was expected to see a lot more playing time with Amari Cooper, DeAndrew White, and Christion Jones all moving on. Those three were the top three receivers on the Tide.
Recovery time for a torn ACL can be as quick as 6 months or as long as 12 months. That would mean Sims could be back as early the game at Georgia on October 3, but that would require everything goes correct in his rehab.
Another option would be to redshirt in 2015 with Sims coming back in 2016 as a redshirt sophomore and still have 3 years of eligibility.
Alabama’s spring practice comes to an end on Saturday, April 18.
