Ivy League Basketball Roundup: 12/23/2014

Below is the Ivy League Basketball Roundup for Tuesday, December 23, 2014. Cornell was the only team to play, as they faced Siena on the road before a Christmas break for the Ivy League.

 

Cornell Powers Past Siena In Second Half

A tight contest at halftime gave way to an easy win the second half for Cornell. The Big Red were led by 26 points and 15 rebounds by Shonn Miller while Robert Hatter scored 21 points. Cornell won 75-57 over Siena.

Siena got out to a 4-0 lead very early in the game before 5 straight points from Galal Cancer gave Cornell the lead. Siena reclaimed the lead and led by as much as 6 points midway through the first half at 20-14. Once again, the Big Red battled back with a 9-0 run to lead 23-20. 7 of those points came from Shonn Miller. The first half ended evenly for both teams as Cornell led 27-26 at the break.

The second half was quickly controlled by Cornell by going on a 13-6 run. A three pointer from Siena’s Evan Hymes made it 42-37, but that was answered by Hatter with a three pointer of his own. From there, Cornell slowly built their lead up before winning 75-57. The Big Red outscored Siena 48-31 in the second half.

Shonn Miller led Cornell with 26 points on 9 of 18 shooting and 7 of 8 from the free throw line. He also grabbed 15 rebounds. Robert Hatter scored 21 points on 4 of 8 shooting and hit 12 of 13 free throws. The Big Red went 23 of 49 from the field (46.9%) and hit 4 of 11 three pointers (36.4%). They made 25 of 28 free throws (89.3%), out-rebounded Siena 38-31, had 9 assists, and committed 14 turnovers.

Siena had three players finish in double figures led by Evan Hymes’ 18 points. Javion Ogunyemi scored 12 points and Ryan Oliver finished with 10. The Saints went 16 of 52 from the field (30.8%) and made 5 of 20 three pointers (25%). They made 20 of 28 free throws (71.4%), had 13 assists, and committed 10 turnovers.

Cornell (6-5) plays their next game on Sunday afternoon at home against St. Peter’s (5-7). Siena (3-7) takes on Bucknell (5-7) at home Sunday.
