2014-15 Ivy League Basketball Power Rankings Week 6
Welcome to the 2014-15 Ivy League Basketball Power Rankings Week 6 edition! Yet again, it was a slow week for the Ivy League with only 8 games played. Here is a look back at Week 5’s power rankings.
Week 5 (12/14 – 12/20) | |||
Rank | Team | Record | Previous Week |
1 | Yale | 9-4 | 1 |
2 | Harvard | 7-1 | 2 |
3 | Columbia | 6-3 | 3 |
4 | Cornell | 5-4 | 4 |
5 | Brown | 5-6 | 5 |
6 | Dartmouth | 5-5 | 6 |
7 | Princeton | 4-8 | 7 |
8 | Penn | 3-5 | 8 |
In Week 5, there was no change in the rankings due to the small amount of games played. Even with the teams that did play, they did not do enough to move up (or down). Five teams are now at or above .500 with Yale, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, and Brown as the teams to reach that mark. Dartmouth dropped below .500 but they are within a game of getting back to even. Only Yale did not play a game in the last week. Here are the 2014-15 Ivy League Basketball Power Rankings Week 6:
1. Yale Bulldogs (9-4) – As previously mentioned, Yale was inactive for the week and their only real danger of losing the top spot was if Harvard beat Virginia on the road, but that did not happen.
2. Harvard Crimson (7-2) – As mentioned above, Harvard faced Virginia in their only game of the week. And it was horrendous for Harvard. They scored 8 points in the first half and 27 for the game. They made 1 bucket in that first half out of 20 attempts (5%). It was a terrible showing for Harvard and the Ivy League. Harvard faces Arizona State on Sunday, December 28 in trying to save face.
3. Columbia Lions (6-4) – Columbia played on game, which was against Connecticut in Bridgeport. The Lions played well against UConn for most of the game until a late surge by the Huskies made it an 80-65 win. Maodo Lo continued his excellent season with 24 points. Lo has scored at least 20 points in 5 of his last 6 games while Columbia is 3-2 in those 5 games.
4. Cornell Big Red (6-5) – The only team to play multiple games was Cornell and they split their two games. They lost to Radford 74-61 in the first game with their second worst shooting game of the season (32.7%). They rebounded to defeat Siena with a big second half in their other game. Cornell still looms dangerous to the top three if they have a poor showing in the conference portion of the season.
5. Brown Bears (6-6) – After a two-week hiatus, Brown followed up their big upset win over Providence with a win over Central Connecticut State on the road. The Bears built a 15 point halftime lead before winning 67-55. They Bears were not great in the win with 21 turnovers, but they got the job done.
6. Dartmouth Big Green (5-6) – The Big Green played one game against Penn State and their poor first half led them to defeat. They were out-scored 41-16 in the first half and made only 7 of 24 buckets (29.2%). The hot-shooting of Penn State in that half (57.7%) ended up being the difference. The Big Green looked better in the second half, but the hole they dug was too much to get out of.
7. Princeton Tigers (5-8) – Princeton played one game against Liberty and they were solid. They recorded a season high 7 blocks and recorded their second highest steals in a game with 10. The Tigers have progressed nicely after a poor 1-5 start to the season.
8. Penn Quakers (3-6) – Penn had a 13 day break since playing Marist on December 9. They traveled to face Vanderbilt on December 22 and played arguably their worst game of the season in a 79-50 loss. They shot a season low 34.6% from the field and recorded only 24 rebounds, also a season low. The loss also snapped a three game win streak for the Quakers.
